With biometric passport Ukrainians will be able to travel to Europe without visa

Visa-free travel will be distributed exclusively to holders of biometric passports while old passport holders will still undergo the procedure of obtaining visas.

After Ukraine's implementation of the action plan on visa liberalization with the EU, visa-free border crossing will only be possible for Ukrainians with biometric passports. This was stated by the Head of Information Policy Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oleh Voloshyn.

According to the law instead of the current internal passports citizens may be provided with a card containing contactless electronic media.
Passport of Ukrainan citizen is developed and issues by the manager of the Unified State Demographic Register .
It should be reminded that the law "On the documents identifying and proving the citizenship of Ukraine" (№ 8507) was adopted by Verkhovna Rada on September 23. The law provides the introduction of biometric documents, including internal and foreign passports, pension certificate and driver's license.

The Ministry of Justice commented on the bill and stated that "no-alternative technology of documents manufacturing" reinforces the monopoly of EDAPS concern, and thus opposed the bill. Indeed, in case of adoption, the law would allow private structure EDAPSto get 60 billion hryvnias out of Ukrainians' pockets in the coming years. October 21, 2011 Viktor Yanukovych vetoed the law.

September 6, 2012 the Parliament refused to provide the introduction of biometric documents identifying the person and giving a right to enter and leave from Ukraine.
