Google looks poised for an acquisition of BlackBerry smart phone manufacturer Research In Motion (RIM).
The deal has a 50-50 shot at happening, would give Google access to RIM’s celebrated security technology in order to better protect NFC transactions on its forthcoming Google Wallet service.
There are other potential buyers, among them Microsoft, but Google has all possibilities to get the most benefit from such acquisition.

Czech Republic capital Prague is the latest city to host a mobile contactless payments pilot, with Komer?ní banka and Citi customers offered the chance to use their handsets for purchases.
The banks have teamed with Telefónica on the trial, enabling 400 shared customers to pay for their shopping at Globus hypermarket stores in Prague by waving Samsung Star 5230 NFC handsets with pre-installed O2 Wallet mobile applications against terminal readers.

Non-bank competition in the payments market is set to hot up as Google launches its own credit card and PayPal expands on its bricks-and-mortar strategy.
Google is preparing beta tests of a commercial credit card which will be issued to cash-strapped small businesses in an effort to encourage ad spending.

According to Reuters , NCR Corp. posted its Q2 results yesterday above Wall Street estimates. The company expects earnings of $1.73-$1.80 per share, on sales growth of six to eight percent for the full year. Analysts expected full-year earnings of $1.75 per share.
Second-quarter income from continuing operations was $35 million, or 22 cents per share, compared with $20 million, or 12 cents per share, a year ago.

Diebold Inc. released its second-quarter 2011 financial results on Wednesday. Net income from continuing operations attributable to Diebold of $20.3 million, or $0.31 per share, was down from $30.4 million and $0.46 per share, respectively, from the second quarter 2010.
